Our Approach

We are a small counselling practice built around the belief that people need a space where they can be honest without feeling judged or rushed. We don’t believe in quick fixes or one-size-fits-all approaches. Instead, we take the time to understand your situation properly and work with you in a way that makes sense for you. We won’t jump straight in to difficult memories, but rather offer a supportive approach to create a strong, safe therapeutic relationship. You will set the pace and each session will make sure that you feel in control of the process.

We provide a range of services and support with the following:

-Anxiety/ Generalised Anxiety Disorder

-Low mood/Depression

-Trauma

-Childhood trauma or attachment

-Identity and life transitions

-Stress and burnout

-Grief, loss or bereavement

-Birth trauma

-Relationship difficulties

-Disordered eating/ Eating Disorders (other support dependent)

FAQs

How do I find the right counsellor for me?

It can be tricky to find a good match in a counsellor. Just like in the rest of life, there are certain people we ‘click’ with more than others. It is important that you find someone that you trust and feel comfortable with. This is why we offer a free 15 minute consultation, to ensure we are the right fit for you. If not, we have a list of others we can signpost you to.

What if my issues feel “too much” or “not enough” to warrant counselling?

Clients can sometimes feel that they don’t fit the profile for counselling. However, there is no issue too big or small to be worked on, if it is important to you. It is more important that you are ready to engage in the counselling process. We have an initial assessment to help you understand more about what counselling can offer you.

How often are counselling sessions?

Following your initial consultation, there may be a short waiting time whilst a space becomes available, this will be discussed with you. When counselling starts it is usually advised to set aside time weekly where possible. This helps with momentum and to ensure we are able to keep consistent work going. If weekly sessions do not work for you, that’s ok- we also offer fortnightly or monthly sessions.

Are there any options to help me afford counselling?

We offer reduced rates for student counsellors. We are hoping to offer concessional rates in the near future. For now, we can space your sessions in a way that suits you e.g. fortnightly or monthly.

My counsellor will know everything about me. Can this be shared anywhere?

As counsellors, we work to an Ethical Framework which has strict requirements regarding confidentiality. Your information cannot be shared in a way that is identifiable. We take anonymised notes for our own records and anonymise any information in supervision. This is an essential part of the relationship we build with you.
